The latest data from SoonerPoll shows former President Donald Trump’s popularity has grown significantly among Oklahoma Republicans over the past six years. Not surprisingly, President Biden is polling very unfavorably among the same group of voters.

SoonerPoll surveyed 302 likely Republican primary voters across the state. More than 80% of respondents say they have a favorable view of President Trump. Conversely, more than 90% of respondents have an unfavorable view of President Biden.

[QUESTION] I’m going to read you a list of individuals or organizations. For each one, please tell me if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion.

Joe Biden
Very Favorable:  0.9%
Somewhat Favorable:  6.2%
Neutral/Don’t Know [DNR]:  1.5%
Somewhat Unfavorable:  9.1%
Very Unfavorable:  82.2%

Donald Trump
Very Favorable: 48.9%
Somewhat Favorable: 32.3%
Neutral/Don’t Know [DNR]: 4.8%
Somewhat Unfavorable: 6.4%
Very Unfavorable: 7.6%

Among Republicans, personal feelings toward Biden and Trump largely depends on the voter’s age. Young Republicans hold a much more favorable view of President Biden than senior citizens do. Just over seventy-nine percent of respondents aged 25-34 find President Biden somewhat favorable and an equal percentage (79.1%) find President Trump somewhat unfavorable. Conversely, only 6.9% of Republicans age 65 and older have a favorable view of Biden while 84.0% of them have a favorable view of Trump.

Donald Trump’s favorability has steadily grown among Oklahoma Republicans since he entered the White House in 2017. Despite rampant speculation about a Presidential run in 2024, Trump has not yet officially declared his candidacy.

About the Poll – SoonerPoll.com, Oklahoma’s public opinion pollster, conducted the poll of Oklahoma likely REPUBLICAN VOTERS for a primary election. The poll was commissioned by News9 in Oklahoma City and Newson6 in Tulsa.

The scientific study was conducted April 25-May 11, 2022 with 306 likely Republican voters selected at random statewide from a tri-frame of cell phones and landline telephones, and SoonerPoll’s proprietary Oklahoma Voter Panel. Cell phone and landline participants were collected by live interviewer and panelist participants were collected through texts and emails. The sample was weighted by age and congressional district in order to reflect the Oklahoma likely Republican voter population. The weighting was conducted using a ‘layered technique.’ The study has a Margin of Error (MoE) of ±5.6 percent.
